Mykonos is a lovely Greek island and a great base to start exploring the area. If you plan to take a day trip, Ios should be on your radar. This small island is famous for the incredible beaches, traditional villages and lively nightlife (but totally different than the one in Mykonos). The island is also home to Homer’s tomb and a lovely old castle.

How long does it take to get from Mykonos to Ios?

The ferry ride between Mykonos and Ios takes between 1h 30 min and 2 hours, depending on the company and vessel.

Is there a high speed ferry between Mykonos and Ios?

Yes, the fastest ferry takes only 1h 30 min to get between the two islands, although the 2 hours connection is provided by a high speed ferry (no vehicles).

How much does it cost to get from Mykonos to Ios by ferry?

On the 2 hours high speed ferry, the economy non smoking seat costs €28 per person, one way, while the business non smoking seat costs €34 per person, one way.

How many ferries per day depart from Mykonos to Ios during the low season?

By early September there are only two ferries linking the two islands and they stop working by mid September. There aren’t any ferries during the winter but they resume the schedule in spring. The low season schedule is not yet available.

How many ferries per day depart from Mykonos to Ios during the high season?

During the high season, the following ferries are available between the two islands:

  • at 9:55 a.m. , daily except on Wed, from June 19 to Sept 6 (1 h 30 min)
  • at 9:55 a.m., on Wed, only in July (1, 15, 29) (1 h 30 min)
  • at 2:45 p.m., daily except on Wed, until Sept 6 (2 h)
  • at 2:45 p.m., on Wed, only in July (8, 22) (2 h)


Are there any overnight journeys between Mykonos and Ios ?

No.

How about the ferries from Ios to Mykonos ?

The following ferries are available between Ios and Mykonos during the high season:

  • at 12:35 p.m., daily except on Wed , until Sept 6 ( 2h)
  • at 12:35 p.m., on Wed, only in July (8, 22) (2 h)
  • at 1:10 p.m., daily except on Wed, from June 19 to Sept 6 (1h 30 min)
  • at 1:10 p.m., on Wed, only in July (1, 15, 29) (1h 30 min)


Where can I buy tickets from?

There are several ways to get tickets: from the online booking sites, from the ferry companies’ website and even from travel agencies. However, the simplest way is to get the tickets directly from the port. Just remember that if you plan to travel during the high season (July & August), make sure to buy the tickets several days in advance.

Does everyone charge the same prices?

The prices are the same, no matter where you get the tickets from.

Important note:

Please not that the ferry companies submit their schedules every Friday to the Ministry of Mercantile Marine and in some cases the schedules for July & August become available on online booking sites only several days before the vessels start operating on that route.
