Ferries from Mykonos to Crete (and return) [Updated 2026]

The islands of Mykonos and Crete are two of Greece’s most iconic islands — and about as different from each other as two places in the same country can be. Mykonos is glamorous, fast-paced, and built for people who like their sunsets with a cocktail in hand. Crete is vast, ancient, and endlessly layered — mountains, gorges, Venetian harbors, and beaches that range from party-ready to practically deserted.

It’s no surprise that so many travelers want to fit both into the same trip. The question is how to get from one to the other — and the ferry is usually a good answer.

Crete or Heraklio?

Looking for accommodation?

Mykonos Town — Chora — is the obvious base, and for good reason: you’re steps from the waterfront, the restaurants, the nightlife, and those famous narrow streets. If you want something a little quieter, the areas around Ornos and Agios Ioannis offer a more relaxed vibe without being too far from the action. For full-on luxury, the hotels along Psarou Beach are where the big spenders go — and the views justify the bill.

In Crete, Heraklion is where the ferries dock, and it makes a solid base if you want easy access to the island’s main archaeological sites, including Knossos. For something more atmospheric, Chania on the northwest coast is hard to beat — a Venetian harbor, great restaurants, and a old town that rewards an afternoon of wandering. If you’d rather trade history for beaches and a slower pace, the south coast villages like Matala or Plakias are a world away from the busier north — in the best possible sense.
