When visiting Mykonos, make sure to experience the local cuisine. While the restaurants within resorts or hotels are most often a good choice, sometimes it’s a good idea to go “off the beaten path” and try some of the restaurants which are favored by the locals. Here are some ideas for you.
Nammos
This is currently the hottest beach restaurant in Mykonos. At the edge of popular Psarou Beach you’ll find a dirty road and at its end, there’s Nammos. There’s a formal dining area, a bar and a beach club so, in short, there’s a place for everyone. During the off-season, you’ll find here the fashionable locals while during the high season, the restaurant is filled with glittery tourists. It’s not a cheap experience but it’s totally worth it. The cuisine is Greek but you can find enough international dishes made with a Greek twist.

Kounelas Fish Tavern
If you pass by the town hall in Mykonos Town make sure to go…behind it. There you’ll find this small restaurant. The restaurant is famous for the great Greek cuisine offered and for the unbolted wine (home made). You must try the fish since you get to choose your meal (yes, you go and point to the fish you want to become your lunch). They grilled it brilliantly. The restaurant is family owned and the passion shows in the quality of the meal offered.
>>Cuisine: Greek, Seafood
>>Price: €22-27

Solymar
The bar & restaurant is located on Kalo Livadi beach, one of the most beautiful – and crowded – beaches on Mykonos. The restaurant is set in the shade and offers great Mediterranean cuisine. The vegetables are organically and locally grown. Next to the restaurant, there’s the beach bar where you can enjoy a quick snack or some interesting drinks.

Matsuhisa Mykonos
Feeling a bit overwhelmed with all those Greek cuisine options? Then you can safely try something else. How about Japanese cuisine with Peruvian influences? Within Belvedere Hotel you’ll find Matsuhisa restaurant (open from June to end of September). The menu includes the chef’s special appetizers such as octopus, salmon or ceviche. Of course you can try the sushi & sashimi menu as well. Finish the meal with cocktails or wine.

Aleka’s Restaurant
On Ornos Beach you’ll find Aleka’s Restaurant, in a building just near Yiannaki Hotel. The restaurant offers a mix of local and international cuisine. One item which must be tried is Kremmydopita, an onion pie made with locally produced cheese. The menu, however, is extensive. You’ll find both “comfort food” (souvlaki, salads) and traditional Greek meals.
>>Cuisine: Greek and international
>>Price average: €42
