Discount Cards in Athens

athens-transport-ticketsThose who travel quite a bit in Europe are used to the discount cards (or passes) available within a city, which combine the public transport with free entrance or discount at major sites.

In Athens , there is no such thing as Athens Pass. So you cannot get a combined pass to save both on transportation and on sightseeing. Still, you need to find a way to save on public transportation and be able to travel anywhere you need do. Plus, saving on entrance fees would be nice too, as even the small fees add up.

Transportation Pass

However, the Tourist Special 3-day Transportation Pass has been available since the summer of 2009. It costs €15 for an adult. You can purchase it at the airport, at the Express buses kiosk, in some metro stations (Syntagma Square, Piraeus and Omonia), as well as in the railway stations (Larisis and Piraeus).

The special pass allows for unlimited travel on all city transportation and unlimited travel to/from the airport, as well. To get the most of it, buy it as soon as you land in Athens.
