Athens is served by two railway stations but all trains to Thessaloniki depart from Larissis R.S., located really close to the city center.

The regular trains take up to 7.5 hours, while the Intercity (IC) trains take about 5 hours.

Unfortunately the prices are not available on any website, no even on OSE (the Greek Railways official website).

How many trains depart from Athens to Thessaloniki ?

The easiest way to check the schedule is on Bahn.de and they do list both fast and normal trains.

The following normal trains are available between Athens and Thessaloniki: at 9:21 a.m., 2:53 p.m., 10:55 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. The IC trains depart at 6:50 a.m., 7:53 a.m., 10:51 a.m., 1:21 p.m., 7:28 p.m. and 8:39 p.m. All trains depart daily.

Are there any overnight trains between Athens and Thessaloniki?

Yes, the normal train departing at 11:59 p.m. from Athens arrives in Thessaloniki at 6:53 a.m.

How about the trains from Thessaloniki to Athens ?

The following normal trains link Thessaloniki to Athens: at 11:33 p.m., 12:42 p.m., 4:33 p.m. and 10:59 p.m. The IC trains depart at 1:51 a.m., 7:24 a.m., 10:13 a.m., 11:40 a.m., 2:54 p.m. and 7:01 p.m.
