Things to Do in Corfu

Corfu is one of the most popular Greek islands among travelers. While July and August always bring many tourists, you can plan to visit the island during the shoulder season (May, September – October) when the weather is still nice but the prices are lower.

Many airlines (including low-cost) offer direct flights into Corfu from various European cities, but you can always fly into the capital of Athens and then travel to Corfu .

Here is a list of the best things to do in Corfu

1. Visit the Old Fortress

The Venetian fortress was built in the 16th century and is located at the eastern end of Corfu Town. The views from here are amazing. You can easily spend about half a day exploring this place. The fortress is open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

2. Learn about the culture and history of the island at the Archaeological Museum of Corfu

It is located in southeastern Corfu Town. The highlight is the archaeological finds from the Temple of Artemis at Corfu. The museum is open from Tuesday until Sunday, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

3. Explore the Old Town (Kerkyra)

The Old Town is located in a strategic position, at the entrance of the Adriatic Sea. It dates back to the 8th century B.C. Later it was renovated by the Venetians and used to defend the maritime trading. Over the years, it was repaired and partly rebuilt several times. The latest renovation was done by the British in the 19th century. Allow plenty of time to explore the narrow streets and take lots of photos. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes.

4. Soak up the sun on Glyfada Beach

beach
It is considered the best beach in Corfu. The sand is white and the rock formations create superb scenery. You can find the beach about 10 miles west of Corfu Town. The area is well developed travel-wise, so you can find hotels and restaurants here.

5. Visit the Church of Agios Spyridon

The church is dedicated to the patron saint of the island. The remains of St. Spyridon lie in a silver coffin within the church. The church’s bell tower is very interesting. You can find it in the Old Town and admission is free. Plan to visit the church outside the service hours.

6. Take the kids to Aqualand
