Santorini Beaches

The beautiful Greek island of Santorini is very famous for its white, black or red sand beaches. The tourists love to soak in the sun or just sit back and enjoy the beautiful sunsets.

Kamari, Monolithos and Perissa

It’s pretty much impossible to talk about these beaches independently. They have several elements in common, including the black sand and deep blue waters. Even their position is similar, since they are located on the eastern part of Santorini, an area loved by tourists. Many hotels, tavernas, cafés, bars and beach-bars are located really close to the beaches.

Kamari

kamari
The beach is located opposite to Perissa and there’s an enormous rock in the middle, Messa Vouno, rising from the sea. Kamari is a beautiful black sandy beach that stretches for several miles offering tourists the opportunity to practice a number of sports like: water skiing and windsurfing. The beach is pebbled but it offers a wonderful landscape because of the volcano which ”vanishes” abruptly on the southern side of the island. The visitor may as well use the loungers or enjoy some time spent shopping.

Perissa

perissa
Perissa beach is located 15 km/9.3 miles from Fira. The beach is popular for the black sand and the crystal clear water. Don’t worry about accommodation since you can easily find a place to stay in the village of Perissa.

Monolithos

monolithos
This beach is located on the eastern coast, north from Kamari. This is a quieter and more peaceful beach, so if you are looking for a quiet time on the beach, be sure to head to Monolithos. There is a soccer pitch, a basketball court and a nice play area for children.

The Red Beach

Also known as Akrotiri ( from the nearest village with the same name), the Red Beach is located 8 km / 5 miles southwest of Fira and is considered one of the most beautiful Santorini beaches. It’s extremely popular for the red and black volcanic rocks located right behind the beach. Together with the black and red sad on the beach, the rocks form incredible scenery. Snorkeling is very popular here, mostly because of the beautiful underwater red rocks.

Vlihada

It is located in the Perivolos area and is perfect if you are looking for tranquility and want to avoid the crowds

Perivolos

The beach is located on the southern part of the island and it has many small taverns and rooms opposite the beach. It includes many sport facilities.

Agios Georgios beach

The beach is located 0.5 km / 0.3 miles from Perivolos and it is suitable for those who prefer a peaceful holiday.

  1. Greetings, I hope you can help me. We want to travel from Athens (2 days) to Mykonos (2 days) to Santorini (2 days). From there, we want to travel to Malta.

Can we depart from Santorini and travel to Malta? If so, can you help me figure out how to do this?

Can you please advise me how to accomplish the above travel plan, and the cheapest way to do this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and help!!
    Regards, Lori

I can help if you tell me when you plan to travel; b/c in October you cannot take the ferry between the Greek islands (the service stops by the end of Sept). I am not aware of a flight from Santorini to Malta either, your best bet would be to depart from Athens or Thessaloniki. Drop me an email at : greece@logueit.com with more details and I’ll try to find some ideas (we are not a travel agency though).
