Random Greece Photo of the Week

This picture is taken in one of my favorite places in Greece. Meteora, with its beautiful landscape full of interesting rock formations and old monasteries, is the highlight of my trip to Greece. No matter how beautiful the islands and beaches are, Meteora remains one of the most interesting places. It is the most important center for Greek orthodox religion and the name can be translated as “in the heavens above”. It’s a miracle how the monks built these monasteries on top of rock pinnacles. Monks used to live a secluded live isolated from the rest of the world.

Now the monasteries can be visited and access is made easy by roads and stairs giving tourists a sneak peek of how live used to be. Among the tourists are also monks from other monasteries for whom Meteora is a very holy place. Just like other tourists they are taking selfies and clicking away with their camera. I managed to take a picture of this monk taking plenty of pictures of the stunning scenery.
