Nafpaktos is one of the biggest and the most picturesque towns in the area of Aitolokarnania in Greece and has a population of around 32000 people.
It’s still early morning and as I began to walk around the castle area, I feel, in fact, as I am walking through a gallery of still lives. You can start your walk from the Castle, you can access it by feet (a very nice walk) or by car. It is one of the most beautiful castles in Greece and it is located on a hilltop at an altitude of about 200 meters. Here you can admire the beautiful castle area, the traditional Church of Profitis Elias and the gorgeous views! From here, you can also see the Rio – Antirio bridge (during weekends it’s a magic view as the blue / white light are on, across the bridge).
From the Castle, all the small streets and roads lead down to the port. A nice scenery is if you can walk down from the Tower clock side. You reach the port and you find yourself surrounded by numerous cafes, restaurants, bars, traditional buildings, the beach and various shops. During Summer time, the nightlife is rich and intense, where the port and the surrounding streets are filled with many locals and tourists.
Do not miss a stroll in Stenopazaro, a cobblestone alley with two-storey traditional buildings near the port.
It’s worth to mention that during the summer period, the town is ideal for holidays as it has numerous beaches within the city and in a short distance outside of it. Nafpaktos is one place that you should include in your next vacation in Greece.
