Milos Beaches

milos rocksMilos has some of the most magnificent beaches in Greece, with crystal waters surrounded by sand dunes. The scenery is picturesque, with lots of magnificent rock formations, as a result of the volcanic landscape.

Milos: location and how to get to the island

Milos is a small volcanic Greek island in the Aegean Sea. It’s famous for the statues of Aphrodite (which now “resides” in Louvre), Ascelpius (which is now in the British Museum) and Poseidon.

Milos is positioned between mainland Greece and Crete. It’s easily accessible from Athens either by ferry or plane. Olympic Airways offers two flights daily from Athens into Milos. Ferries run once or twice daily during winter from Piraues to Milos, while during summer there are as much as 6 connections a day.

Most important beaches in Milos

The two beaches of Adamas are best for those who like a cozy place. Lagada is located right near the harbor. Both beaches have beautiful sand and crystal clear water.

Sarakiniko is one of the most beautiful beaches in Milos and is located in the north-eastern part of the island. If you see a photo of an Aegean beach it might be of this one because it’s the most photographed beach in the Aegean. The entire landscape is white and empty of plants, contrasting greatly with the azure waters surrounding it.

Papafragas offers one of the most impressive sites of Milos with crystalline waters changing colors and deep dark caves surrounding the beach. If you fancy exploring ancient sites, the oldest archeological site of Milos, Phylakope, is located just a few meters away from the beach.

Firiplaka is a long beach with silver sand and colored rocks. The beach is located in the southern part of the island.

Paliochori is located 10 km/6 miles south of Adamas and is the perfect place for practicing water sports. Several tavernas located near-by are the perfect places to sample some local food.

Gerontas is located in the south-western part of Milos and is the perfect beach for those who love nature. The sand is gray and the water is crystal clear.
