Some news about Greece for the pleasure of reading while sipping your morning coffee:
- Remember the story about the Lesbos residents wanting to ban the use of the “lesbian” word? Finally, the Athens court ruled that Lesbians can be from anywhere not just Lesbos. The court said that the word “lesbian” couldn’t define just the residents of Lesbos, so it can be used by gay groups all over the world. Most likely we’ll continue to hear more about the subject soon.
- Athens: traveling to Athens and want to see something for free? Head to Syntagma Square and watch the changing of the guards
- Rhodes: the fires are still not under control and that forced authorities to evacuate three hotels on Friday.
- Costa-Gavras is shooting his latest film “Eden is West” in Greece . Shouldn’t come as a surprise since he is Greek but this is the first time he shoots a film in his mother country.
- Athens: Progress at Piraeus . After a much needed facelift, Piraeus Port now has all the facilities to make you feel welcomed (air condition included!)
- The Greek men’s basketball team is heading to Beijing for the Olympics. Now let’s hope they won’t have the fate of the football team at Euro earlier this year.
