Greece Information
Athens Zoo
I know I’m still a kid although my age won’t exactly confirm that. Every single time we visit a new big city we have to see the Zoo (provided there’s something interesting to see there, of course).
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Athens Zoo (or by its official name Attica Zoological Park) caught our eyes. Athens Zoo is privately owned and is located near the Spata airport.
History
A relatively new Zoo (opened since 2000), it’s home to the 3rd largest bird collection in the world. In April 2001, the “World of Reptiles” section was opened and in 2002 the “Greek Fauna” section was revealed to the public.

Eastern European tourists flock to Greece
Who said Greece was expensive? At least not for the Eastern Europeans, who are at a stone’s throw away from the beautiful Greek beaches. Transport is quite cheap – being in the EU insures very low prices on some of the flights to Greece - , and finding cheap accommodation is easy.
Greek media reported recently that tourists from Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia are heading to Greece. Last year, Bulgaria was the preferred destination for Romanians, but this season it has been replaced by Greece (and Turkey).

Forest fires on the island of Skyros
Forest fires have been raging on Skyros, a popular Greek holiday island, for the past two days. Although thousands of pine trees have been burnt, there are no injuries or properties damaged.
Thankfully the fires broke out where there are no homes but the fire is not yet under control mostly due to high winds.
As you might remember, Greece saw some of the worst forest fires in history. The causes were drought, record high temperatures and arsonists. In 2007, the fires killed 65 people and devastated the local economy.

Wildfires still not under control
A while ago, Greece faced the wild fires on the island of Skyros. Those have been contained but new fires broke out in other parts of the country.
The fire on the island of Rhodes have not yet been contained and it already destroyed 1,500 ha of agricultural terrain and forest, while the fire in suburbs of Athens was contained yesterday. However, the weather is very hot and dry - the forecast says 29C/84F for today and 31C/87F over the weekend - so the authorities fear the fires will break out again.

Getting married in Greece
Planning to get married this year? Then why not do that in Greece. Destination weddings are pretty much anything a future-to-be bride wants provided she likes to travel. The romantic Greek islands represent the perfect place to have your dream wedding and then spend your dream honeymoon.
The easiest way to handle a destination wedding is, of course, to hire a wedding organizer. While technically you can do all the arrangements yourself, unless you have a lot of free time and speak Greek, you should consider at least hiring someone to deal with the documents in Greece. Make sure the company (person) is based in Greece and they have the proper connections.
