Greece Adventure

Climbing in Greece

Greece holds many secrets and once you get past the “normal” activities such as visiting the Acropolis, soaking in the sun or sailing, you can start to explore some of the other things to do here. Many travelers don’t know that you can ski in Greece. Likewise, many don’t know that you can rock climb in Greece.

Until the late 1980s, the climbing scene in Greece was pretty much limited. The next decade didn’t see much development either but in recent years the climbers are flocking to Greece. And they are right to do so: the country offers a diverse climbing experience, from easy climbs just perfect for the beginners, to very hard ones suited for the experienced climbers.

Meteora

It’s the best well known climbing destination in Greece. There are easy climbs for the beginners but also hard ones for those experienced. The views as you climb up the Conglomerate Towers are just amazing.

There are some companies offering rock climbing tours. The minimum group is 4 persons and the equipment is provided by the company. Tours start at €46 per person.

Classic Greece Adventure Trip Review

OlympiaWhen you are planning your first visit to Greece it’s very difficult to create an itinerary to comprise at least the most important aspects of the Greek civilization. The Classic Greece Adventure Trip manages to combine, in a very interesting way, visits to the most important historical sites in the Peloponnese region with the magical feel of the capital and its nightlife.

Cities and sites

During only nine days you get to visit the capital, Athens , The Ancient Temple of Epidaurus (located nearby Epidavros) , the beautiful town of Nafplio (and Greece’s first capital after it achieved its independence), Sparta, Olympia – the birth place of the Olympic Games - and Delphi.

Parnassos National Park

For those who love nature, an active vacation is exactly what they are looking for. Hiking and mountain biking on the beautiful trails, bird watching or skiing are only some of the activities which can be practiced within the protected areas which form the national parks.

The National Parks are protected areas due to rare indigenous flora and fauna and present special interest because of the water, atmosphere and geomorphologic formations. We can find three climates in Greece and a variety of ecosystems.

In Greece there are 10 wooden areas which are designated as national parks. Within those parks (and outside them), there are 196 important bird areas. The first national park established in Greece was Olympus National Park, followed quickly (in the same year) by Parnassos National Park.
