Greece: Farewell to Euro and their European crown

The 1-0 loss on June 14 means that Greece will be going home after its last match against Spain on June 18. This tournament hasn’t been successful for the champion en-titre which started with a loss against Sweden (0-2 on June 10).

Otto Rehhagel, Greece coach admitted that “Back in 2004 a miracle happened and that only happens once every 30 years or so” and that Group D has been too tough for the Greeks to handle.

Regardless of the result against Spain, the Greek team is going back home defeated and with a bitter taste to have lost the European crown. It seems that the tournament holds quite a few surprises especially for those who hoped that the former champions would waltz through their groups.
