Both Kos and Kalymnos are part of the Dodecanese group . Since it takes only 20 minutes by ferry to get from one island to another, this route is very popular among those who want to explore the islands and plan day trips on their vacation.

Kos or Mastichari?

Both. Mastichari is a small village on the north Side of the island. Kos port is located on the north-east part of the island of Kos. Ferries to/from Mastichari operate only in April.

How long does it take to get from Kos to Kalymnos?

It takes 20 minutes to get from Mastichari (port in Kos) to Kalymnos by fast ferry; or 40 minutes from the port of Kos.

Is there a high speed ferry between Kos and Kalymnos ?

Yes.

How much does it cost to get from Kos to Kalymnos by ferry?

The price depends on the company and type of seat you choose.

On the ferry operated by Blue Star Ferries (Kos to Kalymnos), an economy class single ticket costs €8; the airplane type of seat costs the same and a 4-berth outside cabin (shower/wc) starts at €42 / person.

On the ferry operated by Dodekanisos Seaways (Kos to Kalymnos), an airplane type of seat is €14.50 one way.

125x125You can purchase the tickets online (at most 2 months prior to departure), from a Greek travel agency (either directly from Greece or via a travel agency in your country) and you can buy the tickets from the port. Remember to book the tickets in advance, particularly if you plan to travel in July or August.

Does everyone charge the same prices?

Important note:

The schedule is submitted to the Ministry of Mercantile Marine every Friday so, in some cases, there can be some changes from week to week, let alone from month to month. It’s advisable to double check the ferry schedule couple of days prior to the departure.

Although I kept October in the high season paragraph, due to the number of ferries running on the route during this month, it’s certainly low season and trickier to plan a trip.
