After a walk in Athens , you’ll be able to pin-point the neighborhoods pretty well. A longer walk will show you that Plaka – where the archeological sites are – tends to merge with Monastiraki – and its Flea Market and fruits market right by the metro station – , going further to Psiri and then Gazi. Each area is unique and you’ll love them all. But when it comes to finding a hotel for your stay in Athens, where should you look?

Plaka is a bit too touristy and expensive, too. But just a metro stop from the Acropolis, the Monastiraki area is a jewel waiting to be discovered. The hotel rooms are affordable, you’ll be close to dozen of tavernas and , if you want to taste the night life, you are , actually, in Psiri. Not to mention you’ll have access to excellent shopping – whether you look for souvenirs to take back home, clothes or just something to nibble while in town. And getting to/from the airport is extremely easy , too: just catch a metro from the Monastiraki metro station and you’ll be there in about 40 minutes.
