Athens: Hostels and budget hotels near the National Archaeological Museum

When planning the accommodation in a big European capital like Athens , it’s important to stick close to both transport and sights. If you want to wake up to the view of the Acropolis then look for hostels near the Acropolis or if your plans are to move around the city quite a bit, you can stay in one of the hostels near Syntagma Square .

Another good option for stay in the central area of the city and having access to transport is to look for hostels near the National Archeological Museum . There are two metro stations close to it: Omonia and Viktoria. And it’s located in the Exarhia area, a neighborhood in downtown Athens.

Hostel Zorbas

Hostel Zorbas is located in Victoria Square, right by the Viktoria Metro Station and in the National Archeological Museum’s area. All the cafes and shops are near-by and of course, several museums. It is also close to the flea market and the Monastiraki market.

The linen is provided for free but the towel cost €1 each. Breakfast also costs €3 per person. The hostel provides washing machines for the guests. There’s internet on site and all rooms have AC.

Guests can choose between private rooms and dorm-style rooms. During the high season, expect to pay between €27.50 per person per night in a twin private room and €17 per person per night in a 6-bed dorm.


Athens House Hostel

The hostel is located only 150 m from Omonia square, with quick access to the Metro station. The Acropolis is less than 1 km away and several museums are close by, including the National Archeological Museum.

There’s internet on site and the guests can use the common kitchen. The linen is provided for free but you need to bring your own towels.

There are both private rooms and dorm-style rooms to choose from. During the high season expect to pay €13.50 per person per night in either a 3-bed private room or 4-bed dorm.


Aristoteles Hotel

This superior class C (or superior 2-star) hotel is located close to the museum and within walking distance of all major sites (or just a metro ride away). The train station is at ½ km while the Omonia metro station is just 300 m away.

The hotel offers 60 private rooms – from singles to quads-, all with TV, fridge, wi-fi, AC and private bathroom. The breakfast, linen and towels are provided for free. There are also a restaurant and a bar on site. During the high season expect to pay between €14 per night per person in a quad room, €23 per night per person in a twin room and €35 per night in a single room.


Filoxenia Hotel

The hotel (shows as hotel on the map) is located close to Viktoria metro station, near the museum and at ½ km from the train station.

It offers 51 private rooms – from singles to quads- all with TV, phone and AC. The breakfast, towels and linen are provided for free. There are both a restaurant and a bar on site. During the high season expect to pay €14 per night per person in a quad room, €23 per night per person in a twin room and €35 per night per person in a single room.


Hotel Moka

The hotel is located at 200 m from Omonia metro station and very close to the museum. There’s a bar and the hotel offers internet and AC, as well as a lobby with TV.

The hotel currently offers breakfast for free during summer (although it usually costs €6). The towels and linen are also provided for free. During the high season expect to pay between €29 per person per night in a triple room and €30 per person per night in a double or twin room.
