This year, Greek Orthodox Easter falls on April 27. It’s the perfect occasion to visit Greece. Also, the wildflowers are in bloom, while the drier islands –such as Crete- are covered with a blanket of green vegetation. It’s not warm enough to swim, but the weather is perfect for sightseeing.
Weather
The warmer days are starting to become quite common, although on mainland it’s still a bit cold. But it’s the perfect weather for sightseeing. On the islands and in the costal region, the weather is also quite cold but there will be a lot of warm days as well. The water temperature, however, is still too cold to swim in.
Average temperature in Athens is 59 F /15 C, while in Rhodes is 60 F/16 C.

Hotels and Other Facilities
By the end of the month, there will be some hotels and restaurants opened on the islands, but the flights and ferries are still not very common. The prices are still low. Although April is a great month for sightseeing, it will be quite difficult to rent sports equipment.
Easter in Greece
April 27 marks Easter on the Orthodox Calendar in 2008. By far, Easter is the most memorable holiday you can spend in Greece. The most sacred day of the week is Good Friday, a fast day when women avoid any chore. Easter Saturday is the day when all preparations for the festive dinner begin. At about 11 PM on Saturday, the churches and streets start to be filled with people attending the midnight mass. Easter Sunday is a day spent with the family, marked by eating grilled lamb.

International Museums Day
April 18 marks the International Museums Day, which means free entrance to all museums in Greece. Since the museums aren’t yet too crowded, you can easily plan to visit several museums, for free, on this day.
