August in Greece
August is the most crowded and most expensive month in Greece. The weather is very hot, the beaches crowded and the festivals in full swing.
Weather
Hot, very hot…it doesn’t matter if you are on the mainland or the islands, it’s hot, with temperatures reaching 100 F / 37.8 C on some days. Average temperatures in Athens are around 88 F, while in Rhodes you can expect 85 F / 29.4 C. But remember that these temperatures don’t consider that 2007 has been the hottest year in Greece and things aren’t expected to change in 2008 either.

Tips to save money on your Europe vacation in 2008
At BootsnAll they’ve just published an interesting article full of useful tips on how to save money while you travel in Europe.
If you live in the States, earn your salary in US$ or just live outside the Euro-zone, it’s pretty clear by now that a vacation in Europe is not exactly affordable this year. The Euro started to climb rapidly and right now it’s perched at $1.56. It’s hard even to remember when the Euro was less than a dollar.
Obviously this is troublesome for everyone out there who already planned their Europe vacation. But don’t worry: you don’t need to move to a camping site (unless you want to, obviously).

Easter Food in Greece
Easter is the most sacred holiday for the Greek Orthodox. Preparations for Easter come to climax during Holy Week, between Palm Sunday and Easter. There are many customs and foods associated with Easter; some are the same all over Greece, some are really localized.
Tsoureki
Tsoureki, the traditional Easter bread, is baked on Holy Thursday. On the same day the eggs are dyed red.
