Windmills

The island’s landmarks since the 16th century, the windmills, can be seen from every place on Mykonos. In the past, they were used for grinding the agricultural products, while in recent times they have been restored to serve as museum –such as Bonis mill- or as dwellings.

The star of the island is undoubtedly Petros, the pelican. He has been the island’s mascot for the past 50 years as he has always guarded the waterfront of Chora. After a terrible storm, the pelican gave up migrating and became a local resident. He even has a girlfriend and they both walk along the waterfront.

Little Venice

Another important landmark of Mykonos is “Little Venice” (settlement of Aleukantras). Little Venice is located to the east side of the harbor, stretching between the beach of Aleukantras to the old Castle (Kastro) District. Many artists have been inspired by the houses with balconies and their wooden terraces under which the waves are breaking, creating a truly unique site. Nothing compares to a night out on one of the terraces, enjoying the Greek cuisine and music, while watching the magnificent sunsets. And it can be the setting for a wonderful romantic getaway.

The Beaches

Famous for the golden sand and crystal clear waters, the beaches on Mykonos offer a lot of sport facilities for any traveler. The most popular beaches are located on the southern part of the island. Beaches such as Paradise and Ornos tend to be overcrowded during peak season mainly because of their location. Also, Paradise and Super Paradise are known as the best party beaches, where excellent beach bars are located.

Mykonos Nightlife

The nightlife is considered among the best in Europe as Mykonos is marked among the four top clubbing destinations in the Mediterranean, rivaling with Ibiza and Rimini. A lot of famous DJs are attracted by the best clubs and beach bars on Mykonos, among which the best well known are Paranga and Paradise.
